SECTION 11220
VERTICAL FLOCCULATION EQUIPMENT
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SCOPE OF WORK
A. This section of the specification covers all labor, materials and equipment required to furnish and install vertical flocculation equipment suitable for installation in four (4) basins each 18' wide x 18' long x 11' average water depth. The flocculation equipment covered by this specification is intended to be standard equipment of proven performance as manufactured by reputable concerns.
B. The flocculation equipment shall be the product of a recognized manufacturer that has been regularly engaged in the design and manufacturing of flocculators for at least ten years.
C. The manufacturer shall be responsible for the detailed design of the flocculation equipment to be furnished, the preparation of the required submittal data including operation and maintenance manuals, and technical supervision for installation of the equipment.
D. The flocculators shall be TYPE V as manufactured by Roberts Water Technologies, Amwell, Siemens, Jim Myers & Sons, or approved equivalent.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 FLOCCULATORS
A. Each flocculator shall be equipped with a TEFC, three-phase 60 cycle, 460 Volt, Environmental
Protection, Traction Type Drive, with grease lubricated Cycloidal gearing, high capacity bearings and the following features:
1. Drain holes in motor, conduit box and transmission.
2. Oversize cast iron conduit box with grounding lug.
3. Motor winding with an extra lacquer layer.
4. Lacquered rotor surface and stator core.
5. Internal machine parts coated with anti corrosive paint.
6. Chrome plated variable speed disc.
7. External surfaces coated with epoxy paint.
8. Stainless steel nameplate and anti corrosive hardware.
9. Grease lubricated and sealed.
B. Each flocculator shaft shall consist of an extra-heavy steel pipe vertical shaft attached to the reducer shaft by a flanged flexible coupling. All shafts are to be primed and painted with a coating acceptable for use in potable water.
C. Each flocculator shaft shall be furnished with paddle wheel assemblies. Paddle wheel assemblies shall consist of fabricated steel members.
D. Paddle arms shall consist of structural steel angles and paddle blades of pultruded fiberglass channels or redwood boards. All mounting hardware shall be type 304 stainless steel.
E. The shafts shall be suspended from a roller thrust bearing located within the speed reducer. A
suitable water lubricated bottom steady bearing shall be provided.
F. All anchor bolts shall be type 304 stainless steel furnished by the equipment manufacturer and shall be of ample size and strength for the purpose intended.
G. Non-submerged and submerged ferrous metals surfaces will be prepared by blasting per SSPC- SP10, then primed with one coat of Tnemec Series 20 or equivalent. Finish coat shall be applied in the field by the Contractor. All paint coatings shall be NSF 61 Certified.
H. Equipment shall be furnished in dimensions shown on Drawings.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION OF FLOCCULATION EQUIPMENT
A. The Contractor shall install the flocculation equipment in strict accordance with the manufacturer's installation drawings, instructions and recommendations. The Contractor shall obtain the services of a field supervisor employed by the flocculator manufacturer for inspection of completed installation and startup of equipment.
3.2 INSTALLATION AND ASSEMBLY
A. Installation and assembly shall be performed in strict accordance with the manufacturer's drawings and written instructions.
3.3 STAFF
A. The flocculator manufacturer shall maintain a qualified staff of factory trained field service personnel. This staff shall include regular, full-time employees of the manufacturer with suitable experience with installation and operation of the type of equipment being supplied.
3.4 FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER
A. Supervisory services of a factory trained field service engineer shall be provided for a period of two days on-site for inspection of completed installation and startup of equipment. The services of such designated manufacturer representative shall be included in the contract price. The service times specified above shall be considered as full eight (8) hour working days and does not include travel time.
3.5 ACCEPTANCE TESTS
A. After installation of the equipment, and after completion of the services of the manufacturer's representative the Contractor shall operate each unit to demonstrate its ability to operate continuously without vibration, jamming, or overheating and to perform its specified functions satisfactorily.
B. All defects and defective equipment shall be corrected promptly or replaced at the expense of the
Contractor.
C. All final adjustments necessary to place the equipment in satisfactory working order shall be made at the time of the above tests
