SECTION 01445 MANUFACTURER'S FIELD SERVICES


PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

A. General.

1.2 GENERAL

A. The number of days for manufacturer's services stated in the Specifications shall be considered as the minimum number of days. Should additional time be required for services due to equipment malfunction or other problem, such time shall be  at  the expense of the manufacturer, supplier, or Contractor as applicable, with no change in Contract Price.

B. "Days" specified shall consist of 8 hour days on-site, excluding travel time.

C. The Contractor shall designate and provide one person to be responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and expediting the specified services. Scheduling the services shall be done in cooperation with, and with the prior approval of the Engineer and Owner. Such schedule shall be arranged with the appropriate subcontractors, manufacturers, and suppliers in sufficient time to assure their compliance with the service requirements.

1.3 INSTALLATION

A. Competent and experienced technical personnel shall represent the manufacturers of all equipment and systems as many days as may be necessary to ensure proper installation and to resolve assembly or installation problems at the work site that are attributable to, or associated with, the equipment furnished. This requirement applies to manufacturers of all equipment furnished, whether or not specifically set forth in the Specifications.

B. Where a manufacturer's certificate is called for in the Specifications, the manufacturer's representative shall provide the attached certificate stating that the equipment or system has been installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and has been inspected by a manufacturer's authorized representative, that it has been serviced with the proper initial lubricants, that applicable safety equipment has been properly installed, and that the proper electrical and mechanical connections have been made. This certification shall be provided to the Engineer prior to the start-up.

C. Functional (or run) testing is required for all equipment and systems. The manufacturer's representative shall supervise the functional test, which shall include checking for proper rotation, alignment, speed, excessive vibration, and noisy operation. The Manufacturer's Certificate of Proper Installation shall state that proper adjustments have been made and that the equipment or system is ready for plant start-up.

D. Submittals shall be in accordance with Submittal Procedures, Section 01330.

E. Manufacturer shall demonstrate, using laser alignment equipment, that the installed equipment has been aligned properly. Final acceptance of equipment will not be granted until manufacturer has demonstrated to the Engineer that acceptable alignment tolerances have been achieved.  For pumps with motors 7.5 HP and larger, the acceptable shaft alignment tolerances shall be as recommended by the pump manufacturer’s written instructions and shall include parallel offset and angular gap measurements.

1.4 PERFORMANCE TESTING AND START-UP

A. Where field testing and start-up services are called for in the Specifications, or when technical assistance is necessary due to any malfunction of the equipment or system furnished, the manufacturer's representative shall provide such services.

B. Manufacturer's representative shall also conduct and/or assist with performance testing, as required by the Specifications. These services shall continue until such times as the applicable equipment or system has been successfully tested for performance and has been accepted by the Owner for full-time operation.

C. Start-up of equipment and plant shall be in accordance with Manufacturer's instruction and Section 01650, Starting of Systems.

1.5 OPERATOR TRAINING

A. Where training is called for in the Specifications, provide competent and experienced technical representative to provide detailed instructions to Owner’s personnel for operation and maintenance of equipment and associated instrumentation. Training services shall include prestart-up classroom instruction and start-up on-site instruction, as stated in Specifications.

B. The Contractor shall coordinate the prestart-up training periods with Owner’s operating personnel and manufacturers' representatives. Training shall be coordinated with startup activities specified in Section 01650 STARTING OF SYSTEMS.
1. Coordinate training with Owner’s training coordinator.
2. Notify Owner at least two weeks before Contractor would like to provide training sessions. Schedule training dates and times with Owner that are acceptable to the Owner. Normal hours available for training are between 7:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Monday through Friday, except for holidays.
3. Provide outline and presentation at least one week in advance of training.
4. Provide name, contact info, and brief synopsis of qualifications of the trainer.
5. If materials above are not provided at least a week in advance training will be canceled.
6. Coordinate training outline with Owner’s training coordinator.

7. If Owner’s training coordinator does not approve training outline within 3 days of scheduled training then the training will be canceled.
8. Failure of supplier’s or manufacturer's representative to appear for scheduled training, failure to notify Owner 24 hrs in advance of need to cancel scheduled training or failure to arrive within 30 min of start of scheduled training shall result in reimbursement to Owner for time lost by Owner’s personnel in waiting for arrival of manufacturer's representative. Except in case of failure to arrive on time, time will not exceed 1 hr for each employee scheduled to receive training. Failure to arrive on time will be reimbursed by actual time late, up to 1 hr, after 1 hr training will be rescheduled.
9. Demonstrate operation and maintenance of products to Owner’s personnel.
10. During the training instructor will dedicate their time solely to training and not startup services.
11. Utilize operation and maintenance manuals as basis for instruction. Review contents of manual with Owner’s personnel in detail to explain all aspects of operation and maintenance.
12. Demonstrate start-up, operation, control, adjustment, troubleshooting, servicing, maintenance, and shut-down of each item of equipment.
13. Prepare and insert additional data in operations and maintenance manuals when need for additional data becomes apparent during instruction.
14. Owner will videotape the training for future internal use. Provide to Owner copies of any media used as part of training, for example video used during training.
15. Provide training handouts for each of Owner’s personnel present.
16. Owner reserves right to stop training if it does not meet agreed outline or training quality is poor. If training is stopped, training will need to be corrected and rescheduled as outlined above for cancelled training.
17. Owner will provide suitable classroom training facilities including LCD projector and laptop computer if requested.

C. Post start-up operator training shall be as requested by the Owner any time during the one year warranty period.

D. All prestart-up training shall be completed 14 days prior to actual plant start-up.

E. Operating training shall be in accordance with Section 01650.

F. The Owner or Engineer shall have the right to videotape or otherwise electronically or photographically record all training sessions.

G. Contractor shall provide attached Certificate of Operator Training cosigned by Owner and supplier's representative, verifying training accomplished to satisfaction of all parties.

H. Operation and maintenance manual submitted in accordance with Section 01730, Operation and Maintenance Manuals, shall be approved prior to scheduling prestart-up operator training.
