SECTION 14620 DAVIT AND HOIST SYSTEMS
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES:
A. Davit and Hoists:
1. Aeration Tanks Davit Cranes: M-30-1.
2. RAS Denitrification Tank Davit Cranes: M-32-1.
3. Sludge Storage Tanks Davit Cranes: M-80-1.
B. Major Components For Each Hoist:
1. Mounting system.
2. Hoists complete with mast, davit, winch and base.
3. Wire rope assemblies.
1.2 REFERENCES
A. Current OSHA regulations.
B. Hoist Manufacturers' Institute (HMI) Specifications.
C. ANSI B30.2.0. – Overhead and Gantry Cranes
1.3 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
A. Provide a complete hoist system (crane, winch, and mount) as scheduled below for installation where shown on the Drawings.
B. Provide a total of one (1) quick disconnect wire rope assembly for each hoist.
C. Hoist capacity shall be determined at maximum boom arm reach.
D. Design for outdoor, exposed locations.

1.4 SUBMITTALS
A. Shop Drawings: Submit data under provisions of Division 1, including the following:
1. Complete assembly and installation drawings.
2. Descriptive information on material and equipment furnished.
B. Furnish operation and maintenance manuals under the provisions of Division 1.
C. Submit certificates of proper installation and operator training under the provisions of Division 1.
1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Design and fabricate hoists in accordance with applicable requirements of HMI and OSHA.
B. Design stresses and safety factors in accordance with MMA specifications.
1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Deliver, store, and handle the equipment under the provisions of Section 01600.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS
A. Thern, Inc.
B. Or Equal.
2.2 GENERAL
A. All equipment shall be the end product of one hoist system supplier. The supplier shall be responsible for the complete system including all items covered herein.
2.3 METAL FABRICATION
A. Fabricated metal parts described herein shall conform to Section 05500.
B. Anchor bolts, fasteners, nuts, and washers: 316 stainless steel.
2.4 EQUIPMENT
A. Portable Davit Crane:
1. Provide a telescoping boom that adjusts to 4 different lengths.
2. Provide a hand operated ratchet style screw-jack adjustable boom to adjust hook height and reach under load.
3. Field adjustable.
4. Provide with a pin and sleeve bearing in the base and a handle on the boom to allow easy 360 degree rotation of the crane.
5. Coordinate davit mounting to support platform.
B. Hand Winch:
1. Provide a worm gear hand winch with brake for load, and compatible with electric drill input.
2. Provide winch with a 1.125 hex operating nut for use with a portable electric drill, and a handle for manual backup operation.
C. Mounting Base:
1. See Design Requirements.
D. Wire Rope Assemblies:
1. Provide 1/4-inch diameter 316 stainless steel cable with 316 SST eye hook and swagged ball fitting.
2. Provide quick disconnect type.
3. Minimum length: See Design Requirements.
2.5 ACCESSORIES
A. Portable electric drill type operator:
1. Provide one unit compatible with all winches provided in this section.
2. Provide with reversible operation.
3. Power supply: 110V, single phase.
4. Provide with a socket to drive a 1.125 HEX operating nut.
2.6 FINISHING:
A. Provide manufacturer’s galvanized finish on davit crane and mounting base. Provide manufacturer’s standard coating on hand winch. Provide corrosion resistant fasteners.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Install in accordance with the Drawings, shop drawings, and manufacturer's instruction. Field verify locations with Engineer.
B. Lubricate as required. Lubricate parts and components such as gear boxes and bearings prior to shipment.
C. Position hoist or pulley directly over equipment center of gravity.
3.2 MANUFACTURER'S SERVICES
A. Provide manufacturer's services under provisions of Division 1.
B. Minimum Service Requirements:
1. Installation: As required for proper installation.
2. Start-up and field testing: As required for proper installation.
3. Operator training: Two hours on site.
C. Service to Repair Defective Work: Provide during one-year warranty period under the provisions of General Conditions.
