DETAIL PIPING SPECIFICATION – GALVANIZED STEEL PIPE AND MALLEABLE IRON FITTINGS
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Galvanized steel pipe and fittings.

1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. As specified in Section 15000.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 PIPE
A. Carbon steel, galvanized, seamless or electric resistance welded, ASTM A 53, Grade 3B, Schedule 40.
2.2 JOINTS
A. 2-1/2-inch and smaller, screwed, 3-inch and larger, grooved end.
2.3 FITTINGS
A. 2-1/2-inch and smaller, screwed, 150-pound malleable, galvanized, ASTM A 197 or ASTM A 47, dimensions conforming to ANSI B16.3; unions, 300-pound malleable iron, galvanized, ASTM A 197 or ASTM A 47, dimensions conforming to ANSI B16.3, brass to iron seat.
B. 3-inch and larger, grooved end, malleable iron, ASTM A 47, or ductile iron, ASTM A 536, grooves to accept mechanical couplings without field preparation, Victaulic, Gustin- Bacon, or equal.
2.4 BRANCH CONNECTIONS
A. 2-1/2-inch and smaller, screwed tees, as specified under FITTINGS.
B. 3-inch and larger, grooved end, as specified under FITTINGS.
2.5 THREAD LUBRICANT
A. Teflon tape or nontoxic joint compound that is insoluble in water.
2.6 COUPLINGS
A. Grooved end pipe couplings shall be malleable iron, ASTM A 47 or ductile iron, ASTM A 536, Victaulic Style 75, Gustin-Bacon Style 100, or equal.
B. Screwed pipe couplings shall be malleable iron, ASTM A 197 or ASTM A 47, dimensions conforming to ANSI B16.3.
2.7 GASKETS FOR GROOVED END JOINTS
A. EPDM or chlorinated butyl with properties conforming to ASTM D 2000, dimensions to AWWA C606.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 GENERAL
A. Cut pipe with pipe cutting tool. Do not flame cut.
B. Thread to NPT standards.
C. Ream, clean, and remove burrs from piping before making up joints.
D. Upon completion of installation, piping systems shall be flushed and cleaned as specified in Section 15000. After piping systems have been flushed and blown clean, all strainers shall have their baskets removed in the presence of the Engineer. All strainer baskets shall be thoroughly cleaned before replacement.
3.2 TESTING
A. All lines shall be hydrostatically or pneumatically tested at the pressures listed in the Piping Schedule. Procedures shall be as specified in Section 15000.
3.3 SUPPORTS AND HANGERS
A. As specified in Section 15000.
3.4 CORROSION PROTECTION
A. As specified in Section 15000.
