1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit shop drawings in accordance with the General Conditions and Division 1.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE - GENERAL
A. Performance Ratings: Conform to AMCA 210.
B. Sound Ratings: AMCA 301, tested to AMCA 300.
C. Fabrication: Conform to AMCA 99.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 POWER ROOF VENTILATORS – UPBLAST STYLE; DIRECT DRIVE
A. General Description:
1. Fans shall be of the centrifugal direct driven type.
2. Roof mounted applications
3. Performance capabilities up to 6,400 cfm and static pressure to 3” water gauge
4. Each fan shall bear a permanently affixed manufacturer’s engraved metal nameplate containing the model number and individual serial number.
5. Fans providing service in or for Class 1, Division 1 & 2 areas shall be spark proof construction.
B. Wheel
1. Material type: Aluminum
2. Non-overloading, backward inclined centrifugal
3. Statically and dynamically balanced in accordance to AMCA Standard 204-05
4. The wheel cone and fan inlet will be matched and shall have precise running tolerances for maximum performance and operating efficiency.
C. Motors:
1. Motor enclosures: Standard – Totally enclosed fan cooled. Or, as may be noted on equipment schedule: Explosion Proof and/or Two (2) Speeds.
2. Motors are permanently lubricated, heavy-duty ball bearing type to match with the fan load and furnished at the specific voltage and phase.
3. Mounted on vibration isolator, out of the airstream.
4. For motor cooling there shall be fresh air drawn into the motor compartment through an area free of discharge contaminants.
5. Accessible for maintenance
D. Housing
1. Constructed of heavy gauge aluminum includes exterior housing, curb cap, windband and motor compartment housing. Galvanized material is not acceptable.
2. Housing shall have a rigid internal support structure.
3. Windband to be one piece uniquely spun aluminum construction and maintain original material thickness throughout the housing.
4. Windband to include an integral rolled bead for strength.
5. Curb cap base to be fully welded to windband to ensure a leak proof construction. Tack welding, bolting and caulking are not acceptable.
6. Curb cap to have integral deep spun inlet venturi and pre-punched mounting holes to ensure correct attachment to curb.
7. Drive frame assemblies shall be constructed of heavy gauge steel and mounted on vibration isolators.
8. Breather tube shall be 10 square inches in size for fresh air motor cooling and designed to allow wiring to be run through it.
E. Motor Cover: Construction of aluminum
F. Vibration Isolation:
1. Double studded true isolators
2. No metal to metal contact
3. Sized to match the weight of each fan.
G. Disconnect Switches:
1. Disconnect Switches must comply with Division 16 requirements.
2. NEMA rated as required for the application and special motor type as applicable from the list below or as noted on the Equipment Schedule (Note: only NEMA types listed are acceptable options.)
a. NEMA 4X: Same as NEMA 4, but corrosion resistant
b. NEMA 7 & 9: Explosion resistant indoor and outdoor use.
c. NEMA 12: Industrial use, dust-tight and drip-tight, oil resistant for indoor use.

H. Drain Trough: Allows for one-point drainage for water, grease and other residues.
I. Roof Curbs:
1. Type as required for roof application. For flat roof, curb height to be minimum 18”.

J. Dampers:
1. Type: Gravity or motorized as indicated on equipment schedule. If none is indicated, furnish gravity damper as a minimum.
2. Balanced for minimal resistant to flow
3. Coating to be Permatector or Lorenized for standard applications. For corrosive applications, coating shall be Hi-Pro Polyester (Greenheck) or Epoxy Phenolic (Loren Cook).
a. Supplier’s option to provide stainless steel dampers in corrosive applications.
K. Fan Coatings: Provide one of the following coating types as indicated on fan schedule. If no coatings are indicated on schedule, then provide coating as listed below for non- corrosive applications.
1. Coatings choices for corrosive applications: Coatings to be applied to all visible surfaces and all surfaces exposed to the air stream or air space. Includes roof curb.
a. Greenheck; Hi-Pro Polyester Coating with color choice of Industrial Grey.
b. Loren Cook: Epoxy Phenolic w/ UV top coat Coating with color choice of Light Grey.
2. Coating choices for non-corrosive applications:
a. Exterior Exposed fans & accessories: Kynar (Custom Color) as specified below shall be used on all fans, accessories, roof curbs, that may be exposed on the exterior of the structure.
1) “Kynar” - Organic Coating * Architectural-grade, factory-applied organic coating, 70% PVDF Resin, with chrome phosphate pretreatment. Comply with AAMA 2605-98. Final color selection by Owner/Architect.
b. Non exterior exposed fans and accessories located within the structure out of public view shall be coated with Prematector (Greenheck) or Lorenized (Loren Cook) coating.
L. All fans shall bear the AMCA Certified Performance Rating Seal for both air and sound performance.
M. Centrifugal upblast power roof ventilators shall be Model CUE as manufactured by Greenheck Fan Corporation, or Loren Cook Company equivalent.
2.2 UPBLAST POWER ROOF VENTILATORS – UPBLAST STYLE; BELT DRIVE
A. General Description:
1. Fans shall be of the centrifugal belt driven type.
2. Upblast fan shall be for roof mounted applications
3. Performance capabilities up to 30,000 cfm and static pressure to 5” water gauge
4. Each fan shall bear a permanently affixed manufacturer’s engraved metal nameplate containing the model number and individual serial number.
5. Fans providing service in or for Class 1, Division 1 & 2 areas shall be spark proof construction.
B. Wheel
1. Material type: Aluminum
2. Non-overloading, backward inclined centrifugal
3. Statically and dynamically balanced in accordance to AMCA Standard 204-05
4. The wheel cone and fan inlet will be matched and shall have precise running tolerances for maximum performance and operating efficiency.
C. Motors:
1. Motor enclosures: Standard – Totally enclosed fan cooled. And as may be noted on equipment schedule: Explosion Proof and/or Two (2) Speeds and/or as may be listed on the schedules located in the plan set.
2. Motors are permanently lubricated, heavy-duty ball bearing type to match with the fan load and furnished at the specific voltage and phase.
3. Mounted on vibration isolator, out of the airstream.
4. For motor cooling there shall be fresh air drawn into the motor compartment through an area free of discharge contaminants.
5. Accessible for maintenance
D. Shafts & Bearings:
1. Fan shaft shall be ground and polished solid steel with an anti-corrosive coating.
2. Permanently sealed bearings or pillow block ball bearings.
3. Bearing shall be selected for a minimum L10 life in excess of 100,000 hours (equivalent to L50 average life of 500,000 hours), at maximum cataloged operating speed.
4. Bearings are 100 percent factory tested.
5. Fan Shaft first critical speed is at least 25 percent over maximum operating speed.
E. Housing
1. Constructed of heavy gauge aluminum includes exterior housing, curb cap, windband and motor compartment housing. Galvanized material is not acceptable.

P. Centrifugal upblast power roof ventilators shall be Model CUBE as manufactured by Greenheck Fan Corporation, or Loren Cook Company equivalent.
2.3 IN-LINE SUPPLY & EXHAUST FANS
A. In-line centrifugal fans shall be centrifugal direct/belt drive as indicated on drawing schedules.
B. Fan wheel shall be centrifugal backward inclined, constructed of aluminum and shall include a wheel cone matched to the inlet cone for precise running tolerances. Wheel shall be statically and dynamically balanced. Fan housing and shroud shall be constructed of heavy gauge aluminum with a rigid internal support structure. The fan shroud shall have a rolled bead for added strength.
C. Motors shall be mounted out of the air stream on vibration isolators. Fresh air for motor cooling shall be drawn into the motor from an area free of discharge contaminants. Motors shall be totally enclosed, ball bearing type, permanently lubricated and readily accessible for maintenance. Provide a factory installed disconnect switch. Motors shall comply with Section 11338. Bearings and shaft: Bearing life shall be a minimum of 200,000 hours (L50) at maximum cataloged operating speed. Pulleys shall be cast iron, keyed and securely attached to wheel and motor shafts.
D. Provide direct driven or Belt driven fans as indicated on plan equipment schedule.
E. Fans shall be AMCA certified for air performance and UL labeled.
F. Fans providing service in or for Class 1, Division 1 & 2 areas shall be spark proof construction.
G. Provide fans with factory mounted disconnect switch. Switch to be explosion proof if motor is explosion proof. See Equipment Schedules on plans for explosion proof requirements. Coordinate with contractor.
1. Disconnect switches provided must conform to Division 16 requirements.
H. Provide with gravity or motor operated damper as indicated on the equipment schedules.
I. Special Coatings: Provide the following coating types as indicated on fan schedule. If no coating is indicated, use thermo-setting polyester urethane (Permatector - Greenheck) or Lorenized (Loren Cook) coating finish.
1. For corrosive applications, use Hi-Pro Polyester (Greenheck) Coating or Epoxy Phenolic (Loren Cook) coating – Grey color.
J. Inline fans shall be Model BQ or BSQ as manufactured by Greenheck Fan Corporation, or Loren Cook Company.
2.4 SIDEWALL EXHAUST FAN – BELT DRIVE
A. Sidewall exhaust fans shall be centrifugal belt driven type. The fan wheel shall be centrifugal backward inclined, constructed of aluminum and shall include a wheel cone carefully matched to the inlet cone for precise running tolerances. Wheels shall be statically and dynamically balanced.
B. The fan housing shall be constructed of heavy gauge aluminum with a rigid internal support structure. Windbands shall have a rolled bead for added strength and shall be joined to curbcaps with a welded seam.
C. Motors shall be heavy-duty ball bearing type, carefully matched to the fan load, and furnished at the specified voltage, phase, and enclosure. Motors and drives shall be mounted on vibration isolators, out of the airstream. Fresh air for motor cooling shall be drawn into the motor compartment from an area free of discharge contaminants. Provide with explosion proof motors as indicated on fan schedules. Motors shall be readily accessible for maintenance. Provide motor type as listed on Plan Equipment Schedules
D. Drive frame assemblies shall be constructed of heavy gauge steel and mounted on vibration isolators.
E. Precision ground and polished fan shafts shall be mounted in permanently sealed, lubricated pillow block ball bearings.
F. Drives shall be sized for a minimum of 150% of driven horsepower. Pulleys shall be of the fully machined cast iron type, keyed and securely attached to the wheel and motor shafts.
G. A disconnect switch shall be factory installed and wired from the fan motor to a junction box installed within the motor compartment. The switch shall be explosion proof if the motor is explosion proof. A conduit chase shall be provided through the curb cap to the motor compartment for ease of electrical wiring.
H. All fans shall bear the AMCA Certified Ratings Seal for sound and air performance.
I. Each fan shall bear a permanently affixed manufacturer's nameplate containing the model number and individual serial number for future identification.
J. Provide with gravity or motor operated damper as indicated on plan equipment schedule.
K. Coatings: Provide one of the following coating types as indicated on fan schedule. Where no coating is listed in the schedule, provide Kynar (Custom Color) coating listed below.
1. For corrosive applications, use Hi-Pro Polyester (Greenheck) Coating or Epoxy Phenolic (Loren Cook) coating – Grey color.
2. “Kynar” – Organic Coating* Architectural-grade, factory applied organic coating, 70% PVDF Resin, with chrome phosphate pretreatment. Comply with AAMA 2605-98. . Color selected by Owner/Architect.
L. Fans shall be Model CWB as manufactured by Greenheck Fan Corporation, or Loren Cook Fan Company.
2.5 PROPELLER EXHAUST & SUPPLY FANS - DIRECT DRIVE:
A. Propellers shall be constructed with fabricated materials as indicated on schedules. A standard square key and set screw or tapered bushing shall lock the propeller to the motor shaft. All propellers shall be statically and dynamically balanced.
B. Motors shall be permanently lubricated, heavy duty type, carefully matched to the fan load and furnished at the specified rpm, voltage, phase and enclosure.
C. Motor drive frame assemblies and fan panels shall be painted steel. Drive from assemblies shall be welded wire or formed channels and fan panels shall have pre- punched mounting holes, formed flanges, and a deep formed inlet venturi. Drive frames and panels shall be welded construction.
D. Fans shall bear the AMCA certified ratings seals for both sound and air performance.
E. Accessories: Provide fan with accessories as follows or as listed on the equipment schedule included in the drawings:
1. Hood assembly.
2. Insulated Backdraft damper or Insulated Motorized Damper as Scheduled.
3. Wall collar.
4. Motor guard.
5. Motor type as scheduled, Premium efficiency, suitable for Induction duty
F. Coatings/Finishes: Provide the following coating types as indicated on fan schedule. If no coating is indicated, provide Kynar coating listed below. Coating should be on fan and all accessories.
1. Exterior exposed components: “Kynar” – Organic Coating* (Custom Color) Architectural-grade, factory applied organic coating, 70% PVDF Resin, with chrome phosphate pretreatment. Comply with AAMA 2605-98. . Color selected by Owner/Architect.
2. Interior/non-visible components: Thermo-setting polyester urethane (Permatector
- Greenheck) or Lorenized (Loren Cook) coating finish. Color: Grey.
G. Fans shall be as manufactured by Greenheck Fan Corporation, or Loran Cook Fan Company.
2.6 PROPELLER EXHAUST & SUPPLY FANS – BELT DRIVE
A. Provide Belt drive propeller exhaust fan of size, type, configuration and capacity as scheduled and shown on the drawings and schedules.
B. Propellers shall be constructed with fabricated steel, fabricated aluminum or cast aluminum blades and hubs as required for specific fan selection. Propellers shall be securely attached to fan shafts. All propellers shall be statically and dynamically balanced.
C. Motors shall be permanently lubricated, heavy-duty type, carefully matched to the fan load and furnished at the specified rpm, voltage, phase and enclosure. For fans that are specified to operate with VFD drive, provide motor rated for inverter duty use. Ground
and polished steel fan shafts shall be mounted in permanently lubricated, sealed ball bearing pillow blocks. Bearings shall be selected for a minimum (L10) life in excess of 100,000 hours at maximum cataloged operating speeds. Drives shall be sized for a minimum of 150 percent of driven horsepower. Pulleys shall be of the fully machined cast iron type, keyed and securely attached to wheel and motor shafts. Motor sheaves shall be adjustable for system balancing. Provide with automatic belt tensioner.
D. Drive frame and panel assemblies shall be galvanized steel or painted steel. Drive frames shall be formed channels and fan panels shall have prepunched mounting holes, formed flanges, and a deep formed inlet venture. Drive frames and panel shall be bolted construction or welded construction (level 3 fans only).
E. Fans shall bear the AMCA certified ratings seals for both sound and air performance.
F. Accessories: Provide fan with accessories as follows or as listed on the equipment schedule included in the drawings:
1. Hood Assembly
2. Insulated Backdraft damper or Insulated Motorized Damper as Scheduled.
3. Wall collar.
4. Motor guard.
5. Motor type as scheduled, Premium efficiency, suitable for Induction duty

2.7 TUBULAR CENTRIFUGAL FANS – BELT DRIVEN
A. General
1. Base fan performance at standard conditions (density 0.075 Lb/ft3).
2. Fans selected shall be capable of accommodating static pressure and flow variations of +/-15% of scheduled values.
3. Each fan shall be belt driven in AMCA arrangement 9 only with wheel secured to the fan shaft.
4. Fans are to be equipped with lifting lugs.
5. After fabrication all carbon steel components shall be cleaned and chemically treated by a phosphatizing process to insure proper removal of grease, oil, scale, etc. Fan shall then be coated with Hi-Pro Polyester (Greenheck) Coating or Epoxy Phenolic (Loren Cook) coating. Finish color shall be industrial gray.
B. Fan Housing & Outlet
1. Fan housing to be aerodynamically designed with punched inlet and outlet flanges for ductwork connection on inline fans.
2. Fan housing shall be constructed of Aluminum with a continuous seam weld.
3. Housing and bearing support shall be constructed of welded structural aluminum members to prevent vibration and rigidly support the shaft and bearings.
4. Either an OSHA compliant weatherhood, or an OSHA compliant belt guard shall be included to completely cover the motor pulley and belt(s)
C. Fan Wheel
1. The fan wheel shall be of the non-overloading backward inclined centrifugal type. Wheels shall be statically and dynamically balanced to balance grade G6.3 per ANSI S2.19. Wheel shall be aluminum.
2. Aluminum parts shall not require protective coating.
3. The wheel and fan inlet shall be carefully matched and shall have precise running tolerances for maximum performance and operating efficiency.
D. Fan Motors and Drive.
1. Motors shall meet or exceed EPACT (Energy Policy ACT) efficiencies. Motors to be NEMA T-frame, 1800 or 3600 RPM, Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) with a 1.15 service factor or Explosion Proof as noted on the Fan Schedule.
2. Drive belts and sheaves shall be sized for 150% of the fan operating brake horsepower, and shall be readily and easily accessible for service, if required.
3. Fan shaft to be turned and polished steel that is sized so the first critical speed is at least 25% over the maximum operating speed for each pressure class.
4. Fan shaft bearings shall be Air Handling Quality, bearings shall be heavy-duty grease lubricated, self-aligning or roller pillow block type.
5. Air Handling Quality bearings to be designed with low swivel torque to allow the outer race of the bearing to pivot or swivel within the cast pillow block. Bearings shall be 100% tested for noise and vibration by the manufacturer. Bearings shall be 100% tested to insure the inner race diameter is within tolerance to prevent vibration.
6. Bearings shall be selected for a basic rating fatigue life (L-10) of 80,000 hours at maximum operating speed for each pressure class {Average Life or (L-50) of 400,000 hours}.
E. Accessories: As listed in Fan Schedule located in Plans.
F. Coatings: As listed in the Fan Schedule located in Plans.
G. Acceptable Manufacturers
1. Greenheck Fan Corporation, Model TCB Tubular Centrifugal Fans or Cook equivalent.
2.8 INDUSTRIAL CEILING FANS
A. Manufacturer: Leading Edge, Model & accessories as scheduled on drawings.
B. UL Listed
C. Solid state controls
D. Motor: Direct drive with permanent split capacitor type with permanently sealed bal bearings. All motors to have built in, self resetting internal thermal overload protector T19700.
E. Fans to be provided with factory installed secondary support cable assembly connected to motor shaft with minimum 6 feet galvanized cable1/8” 7x7 with rated breaking strength of 1700 lbs and must comply with CSA standard C22.2 September 1986.
F. Fan Blades to be straight with contoured shaped design for maximum efficiency.
G. Fans used with motor speed controls must be labled in accordance with U.L. 507 “Suitable for use with solid state motor speed controls”
H. Factory supply accessories as noted on schedule:
1. Solid State motor speed controls (UL listed)
2. Special length downrods. Length required per schedule.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION - GENERAL
A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. Coordinate all wall and roof openings with General contractor. Verify final opening requirements with actual fan dimensional data.
C. Support fan and fan housings utilizing neoprene isolators at all hanging points. Coordinate supports and support anchoring placement with general contractor.
D. Where indicated on drawings, provide structural steel support stand. Stand shall be constructed utilizing Stainless steel structural members. Shim stand as needed for level installation. Anchor stand to concrete structure.
E. Coordinate electrical requirements. Final electrical connections shall conform to Division 16 requirements. Properly ground equipment.
F. Make final electrical interlock connections between fan operation power and automatic dampers and electrical accessories provided as part of fan package.
1. Include any necessary relays, transformers, wiring, conduit, boxes, etc as needed to make the required electrical connections. Electrical work shall conform to Division 16 requirements.
2. Dampers shall be wired to open when fan engages and to close when fan is shut down.
