SECTION 15120 SLIDE GATES
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Slide gates and appurtenances.
B. Slide gates are shown on the Drawings and described in the Hydraulic Gate Schedule (Drawing 95-M-2).
1.2 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
A. Slide gate dimensions and hydraulic requirements are described in the Hydraulic Gate Schedule.
B. Conform to AWWA C561 requirements.
C. Maximum leakage rates:
1. Seating head conditions: 0.1 gpm per wetted foot of gate perimeter.
2. Unseating head conditions: 0.1 gpm per wetted foot of gate perimeter.
1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Shop Drawings: Submit under the provisions of Division 1, including the following:
1. Include all slide gates in a single submittal package.
2. Identify all submittal data with the gate numbers shown on the Drawings.
3. Complete description of gates, including components, materials and weights.
4. Drawings of each size and type of gate.
5. Calculations showing required force to operate each size gate.
6. Installation instructions.
B. Furnish operation and maintenance manuals under the provisions of Division 1.
C. Submit certificates of proper installation and operator training under provisions of Division 1.
1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Deliver, store, and handle the equipment under the provisions of Division 1.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS
A. Fontaine USA, Inc., Orange, MA.
B. Whipps, Inc., Athol, MA.
C. RW Gate, Troy, NY.
2.2 GENERAL
A. All equipment shall be the end product of one slide gate manufacturer. The manufacturer shall be responsible for all slide gates and all items covered herein.
2.3 MATERIALS
A. Stainless Steel:
1. Fabricate all welded parts from sheets and plates of stainless steel, as scheduled on Drawing 95-M-2.
2. Fabricate non-welded parts and pieces from sheets and plates of stainless steel, as scheduled on Drawing 95-M-2.
3. Anchor bolts, fasteners, nuts, and washers: 316 stainless steel.
2.4 METAL FABRICATION
A. Fabricated metal parts as described herein shall conform to Section 05500.
2.5 COMPONENTS
A. Gate Slide:
1. Construction: 304L or 316L stainless steel, minimum 1/4-inch thick plate.
2. Maximum design deflection at full head: 1/360 of span or 1/16-inch, whichever is less.
3. Provide slide reinforcing of structural 304L or 316L stainless steel shapes as required.
4. Provide welded stem connection capable of receiving stem and taking the full thrust developed during gate operation.
B. Gate Frame:
1. Construction: 304L or 316L stainless steel, minimum ¼-thick plate or structural shapes.
2. Seals: UHMW polyethylene seal along sides and across the bottom of the opening.
3. Provide flange back or flat back frame design.
4. Provide holes for mounting as required.
C. Stems:
1. Construction: Type 304 or 316 stainless steel.
2. Minimum diameter: 1½ -inch.
3. Stem tensile strength: Designed to withstand a 200-pound effort on hand wheel or crank.
4. Stem buckling compressive load: Designed to with- stand a 100-pound effort on hand wheel or crank.
5. Stem L/R ratio: Less than 200.
6. Thread type: ACME-type cold rolled with maximum surface roughness of 32 micro-inches.
D. Operators:
1. Geared crank operators:
a. Provide with weatherproof housing, lubrication fittings, precision- machined reduction gears, tapered roller or needle bearings, shaft seals.
b. Provide a 15-inch crank with a 2-inch square operating nut.
c. Gate operator shall have permanent markings to indicate the direction to open the gate.
d. Operation effort: 40 pounds maximum.
e. Provide rising stem lifts for gates.
f. Provide a clear plastic stem cover and with position indication..
E. Anchor Bolts:
1. Provide adhesive anchor bolt with a minimum diameter of ½-inch and a minimum embedment of 2¼-inch.
2. Materials of construction: 316 stainless steel.
2.6 ACCESSORIES
A. Portable electric drill type operator:
1. Provide one unit and one socket compatible with all crank operators provided in this section.
2. Provide with reversible operation.
3. Power supply: 110V, single phase.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Install gates in accordance with Drawings, shop drawings and manufacturer's instructions. Grout in place using a non-shrink grout.
3.2 MANUFACTURER'S SERVICES
A. Provide manufacturer's services under the provisions of Division 1.
B. Minimum service requirements:
1. Installation: As required for proper installation.
2. Start-up and field testing: Five trips, one half day on site per trip.
3. Operator training: 2 hours on site.
C. Service to Repair Defective Work: Provide during one year warranty period under provisions of General Conditions.
